Labor Leisure
02:26
|
|||
Just over your shoulder,
an ambient dread.
Boss texts after hours,
your friends left on read.
And so you try to unwind
and relax your brain,
but something never sits right,
and pretty soon you find
That all your free time feels like work time.
They’ve gone and gamified work
so now I workify game.
They revolutionized fun,
now labor and leisure feel one and the same.
There’s no worth without work,
there’s no joy without pain,
a quantum state of play
when labor and leisure feel one and the same.
You can drink on the job
or you can work from home,
and when you have your work family,
you’re never really alone
You’ve gotta read more books,
you’ve gotta finish that game,
you’ve gotta get away
so you’ll be more productive
and your whole life starts feeling grey.
That all your free time feels like work time.
And all your leisure feels like labor.

City of Police
01:49
|
|||
Infrastructure asset
cruising for some action.
With an itchy trigger finger
demanding satisfaction.
Crime is crime is crime.
Calling all cars
to the city of police.
Calling all cars
to the city of police.
This is your neighbor,
this is your community,
you put in the labor,
they loot it with impunity,
Crime is crime is crime
in the city of police.
Protecting the protectors,
answering to no one,
they’re kettling in
those pushed to the fringes
when their march of reforms
meets their upturned drawbridges.
I know there’s a fear hiding behind all that rage,
you can see it in their eyes.
Calling all cars
to the city of police.
Calling all cars
to the city of police.
This is your neighbor,
this is your community,
you put in the labor,
they loot it with impunity,
Crime is crime is crime
in the city of police.

Serf the Web
01:17
|
|||
Another day out working on the farm.
Digital serf within the empires arm.
Tapping his watch, and looking at the sun,
“You’d better up those rookie numbers, son”
Content that makes you feel good:
the only thing he’s ever understood.
Content that makes you feel good:
he’s never tried and knows he never could.
“It’s your own fault you never see returns,
you’ve gotta cry and beg for what you’ve earned.”
He’s spent his whole life spinning you this yarn,
it’s time we take him out behind the barn.
Content that makes you feel good:
the only thing he’s ever understood.
Content that makes you feel good:
he’s never tried and knows he never could.

White Lie
04:22
|
|||
When you see it, will you call it what it is?
When they tell you who they are, will you call them by their name?
An ancient falsehood passed down through the ages:
“Our hands are tied; it’s all very complicated.”
While spreading their sermons in the half-truth of twilight,
they receive salvation and you are the sacrifice.
They say the system can change
but their foundation remains the same.
Prostrate at capitals alter, same dogma, new reformation:
one more white lie.
When you see it, will you call it what it is?
When they tell you who they are, will you call them by their name?
When they tell you not to struggle, will you cower like a serf?
And when their stories don’t add up, will you take them at their word?
Or worse yet, will you defend them,
and apologize, and become the vessel
for all their white lies?
Dishonest sermons sung from moral vacuums,
spreading the word of an ancient falsehood.
To avoid any conflict, will you defend them,
and apologize and be come the vessel
for all their white lies?

Playpen of Dissent
02:30
|
|||
In my playpen of dissent,
I get to yell and play pretend
with soft corners and loud colors.
Yanked out, playtime is over.
fists balled up and tears hot,
I hate you, I hate you, I hate you
Do I mean that? When I say it?
Is that for anyone but me?
If I say it’s subversive,
does that make it subversive?
In my playpen of dissent
records pressed, and message sent.
Broadcast the news, the take is left
out on the platter...
You keep on crying, but nothing changes.
No one could ever possibly understand
A squealing piglet all by their lonesome
can’t band together to make demands
Art is important, but it won’t solve our problems.
Art makes me feel good, but it won’t solve my problems.
I have to talk to my neighbors.
I have to talk to my coworkers.
